Description of Resource:

This series of three Fact Sheets, originally developed for the U.S. Department of Education’s Student Mentoring initiative, provides mentoring programs and mentors themselves with basic information about youth development principles and how to build them into mentoring settings and relationships.

These topics are discussed over three sequential documents:

  • Understanding the Youth Development Model, which explores the connections between youth development principles and mentoring strategies
  • Putting Youth Development Principles to Work in Mentoring Programs, which explains how mentoring programs can build youth development philosophies into the delivery of their services and the mentoring activities they provide participants.
  • A Mentor’s Guide to Youth Development, which explains to mentors how they can apply youth development strategies in their interactions with their mentees.

 

Goals:

Help programs and mentors infuse positive youth development principles into their mentoring activities.
